What affects the required cooling capacity?
Contrary to appearances, the room's volume is only the starting point. The actual demand is made up of many more parameters:
- the room volume (m³) and the thickness and quality of the panel insulation,
- the target internal temperature (chilled or frozen),
- the ambient temperature the condenser works in,
- the type and temperature of incoming goods and how quickly stock turns over,
- how often and how long the door is open, lighting, and people inside.
The most common selection mistakes
The most common mistake is sizing by eye from the volume alone, without allowing for the heat load and the ambient conditions. The second is ignoring a high ambient temperature – a unit sized for 32°C may not cope in a hot plant room.
The third is leaving no reserve capacity where stock turns over quickly – a room that regularly receives warm goods needs a bigger margin than a buffer store.

Is it enough to size a monobloc by volume alone?

Is it better to choose a monobloc with reserve capacity?
A sensible margin is advisable, particularly with fast stock turnover and high ambient temperatures. Heavy oversizing, however, is uneconomical – correct sizing is what matters.
