A well-chosen monobloc means a stable temperature, low bills and a long compressor life. One that is too weak will not hold the conditions; one that is too powerful will cycle frequently and wear out. Here are the key selection criteria.
What does the capacity depend on?
The cooling capacity needed to hold a cold room depends on several factors:
- the volume of the room (m³) – that is the starting point,
- the target temperature inside (e.g. 0°C, +5°C, -18°C),
- the ambient temperature around the unit (the requirements differ at +32°C and at +43°C),
- the thickness and quality of the insulation and the type of floor,
- the product load and how often the door is opened.
Wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted (drop-in)?
A wall-mounted monobloc is fitted into the cold room panel – the unit sits outside, so the interior stays fully usable. It is a common choice wherever storage floor area matters.
A ceiling-mounted (drop-in) monobloc is fitted under the cold room ceiling. It takes up neither wall nor floor space and works well when the walls are already built up or when a quick installation from above is needed.
Chiller (MT) or freezer (LT)?
The choice follows from what you store. Chiller rooms (MT) usually hold a range of -5°C to +5°C – fresh products, drinks, fruit, vegetables, flowers. Freezer rooms (LT) work in the range of -25°C to -15°C – frozen food, ice cream, long-term storage.

How do I calculate the volume of a cold room?
Multiply the room's width × depth × height in metres. The result in m³ is the starting point for sizing – the remaining factors (temperature, insulation, load) are adjusted for by the configurator or by one of our specialists.
What happens if I choose a monobloc that is too powerful?
An oversized system will switch on and off frequently (short cycling), which accelerates compressor wear and hurts efficiency. It is better to size the capacity to the actual volume and conditions rather than adding a large margin just in case.
Wall or ceiling – which should I choose when space is tight?
If you want to keep the wall and floor area inside the room free, choose a ceiling-mounted (drop-in) monobloc. A wall-mounted monobloc works when the ceiling is built up but you have access to the room wall.
Can I chill and freeze with one unit?
Yes – with the Dual-Range version, which combines chiller (MT) and freezer (LT) modes in one monobloc. It is a convenient solution when a room changes purpose seasonally.
