In buildings with many refrigeration units, waste heat is a real cost – it raises the temperature of the space and loads the air conditioning. The Waterloop system turns that problem into a saving.
How does Waterloop work?
Instead of an air condenser on every unit, Waterloop monoblocs use a water-cooled condenser. All units in the building are linked by a shared, closed water loop (with a secondary medium such as glycol water).
Heat from the compressors goes into that loop, from where it is rejected outside the building or – most interestingly – routed into recovery, for example to heat domestic hot water.
What do you gain?
- Waste heat recovered into domestic hot water – free energy that is normally lost.
- Lower air conditioning costs – the heat never reaches the sales floor.
- Quieter operation – no air condensers next to the units.
- Easy expansion – further units simply connect to the shared loop.
- Environmentally sound – the natural refrigerant R290, with no F-gases.
Who is it for?
Waterloop performs best where many refrigeration units run in a single building and heat management matters: supermarkets and retail chains, foodservice venues and hotels with high hot water demand, and warehouses and logistics centres.
Frequently asked questions
Does Waterloop need a separate water installation?
Yes – the units are linked by a shared, closed loop with a secondary medium (such as glycol water) and a dry cooler that rejects surplus heat outside. It is an engineered solution that we design for the specific building.
How much can heat recovery save?
The saving depends on the number of units, the hot water demand and the building's profile. The biggest effect is seen where many units run and there is steady hot water demand – heat that would normally be lost heats water for free.
Does Waterloop run on R290?
Yes. Waterloop versions also run on the natural refrigerant R290 – combining heat recovery with environmental performance and no F-gases.
Is Waterloop suitable for a small shop?
It brings the greatest benefit in buildings with many refrigeration units. For a single unit, standard air cooling is usually enough – we will help you judge what makes financial sense in your case.
