Why is frost a problem?
A layer of frost on the evaporator fins restricts airflow and hinders heat absorption. The result: the unit runs longer, uses more energy, and the room temperature may stop being held. In freezing applications the effect is particularly pronounced.
How does hot-gas defrosting work?
Hot-gas defrosting uses heat from the refrigeration circuit itself – hot refrigerant is routed to the evaporator to melt the frost quickly. The method is effective and short-lived, so the room warms up only minimally and the unit returns to normal operation sooner.
Alternative methods (such as electric defrost) can be slower or more energy-hungry. Hot gas is now the standard in high-performance monoblocs, especially freezer units.
Automation and condensate removal
